Keep Your Concrete Driveway Looking Great

Posted on

If you have a concrete driveway then you want to be sure you take the necessary steps to keep it looking nice and clean. If you neglect the concrete for even a short time then it can get stained and not look as good as you would like it to. The tips in this article can help you to properly maintain your concrete driveway, as well as know what to do if you do get stains on it.

Put an oil drip pan under cars that are sitting

If you have any vehicles in the driveway that don't move very often then you should put an oil drip pan under the car and make sure it is situated under the oil pan. This way, if that car develops an oil leak the oil will drip down onto the oil drip pan and never come into contact with your concrete.

If you do end up with oil on the driveway you can try to remove the stain by first absorbing as much of it as you can by pouring kitty litter on it and allowing it some time to soak in the oil. Remove the kitty litter and then pour liquid or powder laundry soap on the spot. Let it sit for a while then use hot water and a wire brush to get the stain out.

Don't leave metal parts or items on the driveway

If you leave metal items on your concrete driveway and they get wet then they can cause rust spots on the concrete which will be difficult for you to get off of the driveway. Even the end of your garden hose can leave a rust spot.

If you do end up with rust spots then you can try to remove them with vinegar. In order to do this, you want to pour some white vinegar on the spot and let it set for a few minutes. Once you have allowed it to set, take a wire brush and scrub the area vigorously. Use cold water to rinse the area and repeat the process as many times as you need to until the rust stain is no longer there.

Use a hot water washer to routinely clean the driveway

Normal everyday use can leave your concrete driveway looking dirty. You should use a hot water washer to clean the driveway thoroughly when you see that the driveway is being dirtied up by things like regular dirt, mud, tire tracks and other normal marks and stains.
